The World Government issues bounties for pirates and other criminals with the intent of publicizing their threat level and inciting their capture and/or death. Wanted posters, depicting their portrait, name, and bounty, are distributed across the world by News Coo. Although bounties are highly effective in ostracizing criminals from society, many pirates embrace their notoriety and take great pride in it. The highest bounty in history belonged to Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King who conquered the Grand Line and spurred the Golden Age of Pirates.
